Paediatric adhesive bowel obstruction: A review of a case of congenital surgery and its sequelae by Dr Shanthi Mariapan in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Introduction Ileal atresia is a congenital abnormality where there is significant stenosis or complete absence of a portion of the  ileum . There is an increased incidence in those with chromosomal abnormalities. Ileal atresia results from a vascular accident  in utero  that leads to decreased intestinal perfusion and subsequent ischaemia of a segment of  bowel . This leads to narrowing, or in the most severe cases, complete obliteration of the intestinal lumen. An ileal atresia is often discovered prenatally at a routine prenatal ultrasound scan or following the development of  polyhydramnios . On ultrasound, there is frequently a proximal dilated intestinal segment. In the postnatal period, an abdominal radiograph will show air in the dilated loops of proximal bowe...

Ibn Khaldoun's critique of Prophet's medical teachings is a model for evaluating alternative medicine by Dr.Mohammadreza Shahidipak in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Ibn Khaldoun's critique of Prophet's medical teachings is a model for evaluating alternative medicine by Dr.Mohammadreza Shahidipak in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences  Abstract Investigation at  the oldest history of medicine shows that there has always been a conflict between dominant and progressive and alternative medicine, especially in the modern era.Seven hundred years ago, Ibn Khaldun cast doubt on one of the most reliable alternative and complementary medicine and destroyed its certainty, and this was in accordance with the Prophet of God's practice in visiting a doctor and his legal and value recommendations to the doctor. Among his recommendations to the graduates of Jundishapur are regarding patient-doctor relations and the legal rights of the patient and the necessity of referring to a more skilled doctor. This intersection has reached its peak in the modern era. And today, one of the actions of modern medicine is to ch...

THYMECTOMY IN COEXISTENT MYASTHENIA GRAVIS AND SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: A CASE REPORT by Yusak Mangara Tua Siahaan in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

THYMECTOMY IN COEXISTENT MYASTHENIA GRAVIS AND SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: A CASE REPORT by Yusak Mangara Tua Siahaan in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background: The safety of thymectomy in cases of myasthenia gravis (MG) with concurrent systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remains unclear. There are concerns that thymectomy could lead to a loss in central tolerance and induce or exacerbate the disease. However, SLE is also associated with thymic abnormalities, which may play a role in its pathogenesis. Case Description: We report a case of an adult female SLE patient with a previous history of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) who later developed MG, in whom a thymectomy procedure was performed due to an inadequate response toward multiple attempts of conventional treatment.  The effects of thymectomy in our patient were observed to be safe and beneficial (modified Osserman class IV before and class II after thymectomy), which wa...

A Fitting Warning- An atypical cause of first seizure event by Dr Yu Feng Shi in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

A Fitting Warning- An atypical cause of first seizure event by Dr Yu Feng Shi in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has caused one of the greatest global pandemics in recent times and presents with a myriad of clinical manifestations due to its complex pathogenesis. Despite this, there is significant under-detection and delay in diagnosis. HIV also has significant neurological presentations, including seizures, which this case illustrates, as an atypical first presentation of HIV. With minimal risk factors or symptomatology for HIV and imaging findings suggestive of a malignant brain lesion as the cause of her seizures, a pathological diagnosis of toxoplasmosis was ultimately obtained in this patient and led to the eventual HIV diagnosis. She was managed on highly active antiretroviral therapy and anti-parasitic therapy with good clinical effect. Literature review demonstrates new onset seizures in the ...

A Review of Tai Chi’s Health Benefits and Its Potential Mechanisms for Chronic Diseases by Hongtao Li in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Tai Chi (TC) is a unique form of exercise that entails focused mindfulness and physical movement and hence belongs to the category of mind-body exercises.
